New Book Recommendations for May


I love a good book. I am on the waiting list for a ton of books, but they all seem to be really popular, so hopefully I will have some more recommendations coming up this summer!

Here are a few of my more recent reads.

Chicagoland Vampire Series by Chloe Neill

"Some Girls Bite" is the first novel in the Chicagoland Vampire Series. This is a fun, spunky series. It's an easy read and quickly gets you attached to the main characters.

Here is a brief description:

They killed me. They healed me. They changed me.

Sure, the life of a graduate student wasn't exactly glamorous, but I was doing fine until Chicago's vampires announced their existence to the world. When a rogue vampire attacked me, I was lucky he only got a sip. Another bloodsucker scared him off and decided the best way to save my life was to make me the walking undead.

Now I've traded sweating over my thesis for learning to fit in at a Hyde Park mansion full of vamps loyal to Ethan "Lord o' the Manor" Sullivan. Of course, as a tall, green-eyed,
four-hundred-year-old vampire, he has centuries' worth of charm, but unfortunately he expects my gratitude—and servitude. Right...

But someone's out to get me. Is it the rogue vampire who bit me? A vamp from a rival House? An angry mob bearing torches? 

My initiation into Chicago's nightlife may be the first skirmish in a war—and there will be blood.

Throne of Glass by Sarah Maas

I wasn't sure at first how I would like this book, but it ended up being a entertaining read. It's a mix of reality TV competitions and medieval fighting. 


Here is a brief description:

After serving out a year of hard labor in the salt mines of Endovier for her crimes, 18-year-old assassin Celaena Sardothien is dragged before the Crown Prince. Prince Dorian offers her her freedom on one condition: she must act as his champion in a competition to find a new royal assassin.

Celaena finds her training sessions with the captain of the guard, Westfall, challenging and exhilarating. But she's bored stiff by court life. Things get a little more interesting when the prince starts to show interest in her... but it's the gruff Captain Westfall who seems to understand her best.
Then one of the other contestants turns up dead... quickly followed by another. Can Celaena figure out who the killer is before she becomes a victim? As the young assassin investigates, her search leads her to discover a greater destiny than she could possibly have imagined.
Secrets of a Summer Night by Lisa Kleypas
I am a sucker for a good love story. I love happy endings. I am fascinated by old world stories where ladies wear ball gowns and attend lavish parties.
I was drawn to the misfit of characters who ban together in hopes of finding husbands. 
Here is a brief description:
Four young ladies enter London society with one common goal: they must use their feminine wit and wiles to find a husband.So a daring husband-hunting scheme is born.
Annabelle Peyton, determined to save her family from disaster, decides to use her beauty and wit to tempt a suitable nobleman into making an offer of marriage. Guest Room Redo on a Budget

In our Monday catch up, I talked about living in our house for 4 years. My sister had been living with us for the past year, so when she moved out into her own apartment, I decided to decorate the guest room. Let's just say the room before was pretty boring! It was a hodge-podge of hand me downs. I decorated and updated the room for under $35. I think it looks awesome! I used a leftover gallon of paint from when we remodeled our rental property. Check out that post here . I didn't do a whole lot when it came to decorating, but I found a couple things at Goodwill, like the lamp, the black vase, and the little bird all for under $8. I spray painted the lamp base and bird and I hand painted the lamp shade. It was in rough shape, but now you would never know! Don't mind the frame without a picture in it! I haven't decided if I will put a picture or saying in it yet. I redid the dresser a couple years ago, so I choose to decorate the room around the b...

Cold Day, but a Happy, Happy Day!!!

We are at -8 degrees here in arctic Indiana! So while schools are closed (this means the Hubby is home still in bed), some of us have to truck it to work! Even though the weather is terrible, I am super excited today! It was announced that I was the official winner of the Creative Cookie Contest hosted by Cookie and Cups  and Confessions of a Cookbook Queen . Please go check out their websites for their experience with my recipe!  I can't wait to receive the contest prizes. I won an iPad mini and an Artisan Kitchen Aid Mixer. I am just so happy. I did the contest because I thought it would be fun. I never expected to be chosen as a finalist, let alone the contest winner!  Before I ever submitted the recipe I told my sister that if she helped me bake the cookies that if I won I would give her the mixer....well.... I should have thought that through! LOL... but big thanks to Kayla for keeping me company in the kitchen and working on the butters...
