Las Vegas Fall 2014

We are back! Last week we headed to Las Vegas on the Hubby's Fall Break. This is the first time we have ever been in October and the weather was great!

I think this was our favorite vacation together so far. We had a great time. We arrived late Saturday night to the Riviera Hotel & Casino. We love the Riviera. It's an older hotel on one end of the strip, but it comps well and it's not as crowded as mid-strip.

We were staying here for two comp nights. We had a great time playing the Bridesmaid slot machines.

The Hubby was happy that we were in Las Vegas for Sunday Football. We went to the Westgate Hotel (formally Las Vegas Hilton). They have the world's largest sports book. It was really crazy watching the games there because you never knew what screen people were screaming at!

We took a trip downtown on Sunday evening. We always have a good time downtown. It's a lot less crowded than the strip. We had fun playing the vintage horse racing machine that still takes quarters.

We moved hotels on Monday to the Rio Hotel & Casino. It was our first time staying here. We had requested an upgrade to a suite, but we weren't sure if one would be available when we checked in but lucky for us we did get our upgrade.

They had a great pool area. We enjoyed it. Except that one pool felt like bath water and the next pool felt like we were swimming in ice water.

We planned on attending two shows. We saw "V the Ultimate Variety Show" on Monday evening at PH. It was a good show. They had some neat acts and we couldn't complain because the tickets were only about $45 dollars each.

On Tuesday we decided to have breakfast at Hash House a Go-Go. I had heard rave reviews about the food and the big portions. We decided to go. I had seen all the pictures of chicken and waffles, so I decided that is what I was going to get. WOW are the portions big! The Hubby and I could have split one plate, but we ended up leaving a ton of food! You can see the Hubby's biscuits and gravy in the background.

We decided to play in a poker tournament at the Rio. It was a $50 buy in, so the Hubby and I each bought in. Well after 11 players the tourney paid 1st- $300 and 2nd- $200. The Hubby got first and I got second! We took all the prize money! We decided that since we won we would play the noon tourney for $85 each. After 9 players I took first place for $450!!!

We went to see "The Mentalist" at PH on Tuesday evening. This is one of our favorite shows yet. Gerry McCambridge was awesome. We bought VIP tickets for $30 each. We were seated in the front row.

I was so excited and kept hoping I would get brought on stage. Well to my luck the woman right next to me got picked! Ugh, just my luck!

We bought a copy of his book and got it signed! I also got to take a picture with him.

On Wednesday we just hung around our hotel area. We spent some time in the Sportsbook at the Rio and bet some horses, the Hubby played some no limit poker while I played slots, and we had a champagne dinner which was delicious!

It's always terrible to leave vacation and go back to reality, but we really enjoyed staying five days. It gives you plenty of time not to feel rushed and jam your days full of things to do. We can't wait to go back and are looking forward to our next trip to Las Vegas!

Here are a few random pictures from our trip!

Until next time Las Vegas,

Kara

Ways to Save Money on Groceries

The Hubby and I have been together 8 years this month. We have been together since we were freshman in college.  The unique and fun thing about our relationship is that we have kind of grown up as adults together.  When we were in college we both were living year to year on what we earned from working in the summer months. That means we never could be extravagant with what we purchased for groceries. We learned pretty early how to budget our money to stretch it as far as we could.  Now that we both have worked full time for 5 years, times have changed, but I still love to save money. There is no better feeling than getting a great deal! Here are a few ways to save at the grocery store: Digital Coupons : These are so easy and help save big. I mainly grocery shop at Kroger. It is super easy to register your Shoppers Card to instantly download digital coupons to it. This is what I primarily do to save our family money. I try to combine the digital coupons with Kroger sale

Date Night Jar

The Hubby and I have been together 8 years. The one thing we have consistently argued over for those 8 years is the question, "What do you want to do?" I consider us to both be intelligent adults, but when that question comes out of the other persons mouth its like we become fools and have no thoughts. Our common answer is "I don't know" or "I don't care".  Well I found something to fix that problem. Our date night jar! I saw the idea on Pinterest (where all ideas live of course) and decided it was an inexpensive, crafty solution to our problem. All you need are Popsicle sticks, markers, a jar, and your list of activities you want to use. Both the Hubby and I brainstormed ideas in the categories of free dates, cheap dates, more expensive dates, and plan ahead dates. Here is our example list: Making the list was the hardest part. There are a lot of online links for date ideas. Just cater your list to your tastes and preferen

Book & Movie Review- Molly's Game

Joe and I recently read the book Molly's Game. We decided we would read the book while we waited for the movie to come out on DVD. photo credit link It is hard to believe it was a true story and just not made up. I am not one who likes biographies or reading to "learn." I like a good dramatic up and down story and this fits into that category. It's an action packed book about poker, greed, and knowing who to trust.  Molly Bloom- photo credit link The book details Molly Bloom's rise to run a secret celebrity rich poker game in back rooms and fancy hotels. The book drops some big names that many will recognize from many movies we watch on the big screen. IMDb's description of the movie is, "The true story of Molly Bloom, an Olympic-class skier, who ran the world's most exclusive high-stakes poker game and became an FBI target." photo credit link I would highly recommend reading the book first, because the movie does not use names
